Atlas notes

Omega built the original Seamaster “PloProf” for Comex divers in 1970, a monocoque case sealed so tightly it never needed a helium escape valve, locked by a red push-button bezel release, rated to 600 meters. It still drives five figure prices on the secondary market. Steeldive’s SD1969 takes the silhouette, not the engineering, and sells it in steel for under $400.

Steeldive lists the case at 56mm across including the crown, 48mm lug to lug, 15.6mm thick, with a 22mm lug width feeding a steel mesh bracelet. Unlike the vintage original, this is a conventional screw-down crown and screw-back case rather than a monocoque, fitted with a helium escape valve the 1970 Omega never needed. A 120 click ceramic bezel and AR coated sapphire crystal sit over the dial. Inside is the same NH35 Steeldive fits across its whole range: hacking seconds, hand-winding, and 41 hours of power reserve.

The depth rating is the headline: 1200 meters, double what the real Ploprof was ever rated for, and far beyond anything an owner will test in a lifetime of use. What that buys in practice is case margin rather than usable capability. Steeldive also does not publish a clasp type for the mesh bracelet, an omission the Atlas is not going to paper over with a guess.

At 56mm across, this is a genuinely enormous watch, bigger than either of Steeldive’s own tuna and 6105 homages, and the asymmetric shape will read as costume jewelry on plenty of wrists no matter how short the 48mm lug to lug keeps the footprint. I would not recommend this as anyone’s only watch. As the strangest case shape in dive watch history, sold for a fraction of what Omega’s own version commands, it earns a look rather than a blanket recommendation.
