the 37mm Black Bay Fifty-Four homage
San Martin's SN0138-G shrinks its Black Bay Fifty-Four homage to 37mm: ceramic bezel, sapphire AR crystal, NH35 automatic, 200m, under $240.

Tudor charges a real watch’s worth of money to make a 37mm case fashionable again. San Martin’s SN0138-G exists because that idea should not require four figures to try, and the watch forums already have a name for it: BB54, shorthand for the Black Bay Fifty-Four it is aping, right down to the gilt-adjacent snowflake hand and the slab-sided lugs.
The case runs 37mm across and 12.7mm thick, 45.5mm lug to lug, proportions from an era before dive watches doubled as wrist furniture. San Martin fits a 120 click ceramic bezel insert rather than the aluminum still common at this price, sapphire with AR coating over the dial, and a 316L bracelet that tapers from 20mm to 16mm to an extension folding clasp stamped with a 3D hexagon logo. Inside sits an NH35, the same Seiko-family automatic doing duty across most of the homage market below $500.
What the SN0138-G’s own product page will not tell you is what that NH35 actually delivers: no power reserve, no accuracy figure, on a listing that specifies bracelet taper to the millimeter. San Martin will sell you an answer to that question, just not for free. The same case ships as the SN0138-B with an ST2130 movement, a stated beat rate and a longer reserve, for roughly $90 more. That is a fair trade if you want the number on paper; the NH35 version is a bet that a movement family with a known reputation does not need to publish its own report card.
Whether 37mm reads as refreshingly compact or simply small depends on what is already in your watch box. If your current diver is a 42mm modern tool piece, the 45.5mm lug to lug alone puts this in a different category of object, and that is rather the point of chasing a vintage silhouette in the first place. At this money, with this bezel and this crystal, I would take the compromise on the movement spec sheet over paying San Martin’s own upcharge for the ST2130, and put the difference toward a strap.
