Atlas notes

Seestern is one of the handful of Chinese OEM houses, alongside San Martin, Cronos and Steeldive, building homage divers around the same off-the-shelf Seiko NH35A and selling direct from their own storefronts for a fraction of what the watches they resemble cost. The S434 is its skin diver entry, and on paper it undercuts most of that peer group: a domed sapphire crystal where several rivals still ship AR-coated flat glass, and a lumed ceramic bezel insert at a price where painted aluminum is the norm.

The case is compact by this category’s standards. 39mm across and 10mm thick, 13mm once you count the dome, which is a genuinely wearable set of numbers next to the 40mm-plus, 13mm-plus cases most of its rivals default to. The NH35A inside is the same movement doing duty in half the microbrand catalog right now: hacking, hand-winding, 21 jewels, 41 hours on a full wind. Reliable, cheap to service anywhere, and not something to pay a premium for, because nobody does.

What Seestern will not tell you is the lug to lug or the lug width, on any listing this server could verify, and that matters more here than it would on a watch with an established fit reputation. A 39mm case can wear small and neat or long and awkward depending on a number the maker simply does not publish. Buy this one on the strength of the photo of the strap on a wrist you trust, not the spec sheet.

At $190 to $230 depending on colorway, against the Steeldive SD1953’s sub-$150 or the San Martin SN0121G’s $230-260, the S434 sits mid-pack on price and roughly mid-pack on what it delivers. I would not call it the pick of this group. I would call it a fair one, provided the strap fits you when it arrives.
