Atlas notes

Most affordable divers shrink toward 40mm. The SD1944 goes the other way: 45mm across the case, 51mm lug to lug, 13.5mm thick, dressed in a retro military look for $179 on nylon or rubber and $189 on steel.

The parts list is strong for the money. AR-coated sapphire, a 120-click ceramic bezel, a bead blasted 316L case, and 200 meters on the spec sheet. Inside is Japan’s NH35, a workhorse automatic that I would call reliable rather than interesting. Steeldive does not publish a power reserve for this reference, nor dial colours, so the sheet above says so instead of borrowing a figure from the NH35 family. Treat the 200m as the maker’s claim, not a certification.

The size is the cost. Fifty-one millimeters of lug to lug will overhang a wrist under about seven inches, and I would not buy this unseen if yours is slim. The 20mm lug width at least means strap swaps are easy, which may be how you tame it.

If the military idea appeals but the size does not, the SD1953 in this Atlas is 40.5mm and cheaper. If you have the wrist for it, this is a loud, well specified watch for under $200, and an honest one to try.
